The following are DSEC requirements and specifications for a 15 foot HQ5 meter installation.

  • 15 feet of pipe

  • 3 straps to fasten look to meter pole (placement bottom, middle and top)

  • Weatherhead

  • leave 4 to 5 feet of slack after weatherhead

  • 200 amp disconnect box below meter base (size may vary on disconnect depending on service)

  • Meter loops must have proper grounding

  • Meter sockets should be located between 5 and 6 feet above permanent ground line.

  • Loops shall be tall enough to allow proper ground clearance for service drop wires.

Installations and wiring must adhere to the current National Electric Code (NEC) and National Electric Safety Code (NESC), as well as any other applicable local, state or federal regulations or ordinances.

All new meter locations must be readily accessible by DSEC personnel, be relatively free from possible mechanical damage and be surface mounted so as to allow for replacement or maintenance (i.e. meter loops/bases must not be made to be a permanent part of any structure).

The connections to the meter socket base must be watertight. A watertight entrance conduit or weatherhead must be installed on the upper end of the conduit.

DSEC will not energize a service that is judged by the cooperative employee to be in violation of any regulatory code or cause an unsafe condition to people, livestock or property.
